EC2 basics

You will learn: to rent a server by the hour, pick its size, and know stop from terminate.

The problem

Kedai Kancil needs a server for one week of testing. Then never again. What makes sense?

An EC2 instance: A virtual server you rent by the second or hour. Stop it to pause compute; terminate it to delete it. is a server you rent by the hour. Launching one is four choices. Put them in order.

First choice at the top. Put these in order. Use the arrows, or drag.

  • Launch, and watch it start
  • Pick the starting disk (an AMI)
  • Pick the size (the instance type)
  • Pick the row and the door guard

Watch

The Instance type: The size of a server: how much CPU and memory. Bigger costs more per hour. sets CPU and memory. Bigger costs more per hour. For practice, pick the smallest that works. Sort these.

      Terminate cannot be undone. Extra disks you attached may stay behind, still billing. Check the Volumes list after.
