World K9: Cluster Admin

What CKA adds to CKAD

You will learn: what the CKA asks on top of CKAD, and how to step inside a node.

Checked with Kubernetes 1.37 on 1 Nov 2026

The problem

You are here: cluster kind-dev namespace default
kubectl get nodes: dev-worker is NotReady. The other two stalls are Ready. Terminal output: $ kubectl get nodes NAME STATUS ROLES AGE VERSION dev-control-plane Ready control-plane 6m34s v1.37.0 dev-worker NotReady <none> 6m34s v1.37.0 dev-worker2 Ready <none> 6m34s v1.37.0

A stall went dark: dev-worker is NotReady. No YAML file can fix this. Someone must go behind the counter, into the machine itself.

Try it

CKAD tests the cooks: your apps. The CKA: Certified Kubernetes Administrator: hands-on tasks to run the cluster itself. tests the building manager: the cluster itself. Sort each task.

Drag a card into a box. Or tap the card, then tap the box.

      Predict

The CKA is 2 hours of hands-on tasks on Kubernetes 1.37. It has five parts. Which part weighs the most?

      Pick one answer.

      Watch

K9 is your road map to the back office. Tap each stop.

Tap each point on the timeline.

      Try it

Each stall is a real machine. Step into its back room: a node shell: A terminal inside one stall's back room: you type commands on the node itself (ssh, or docker exec on kind).. Type ssh dev-worker, then hostname.

You are here: cluster kind-dev namespace default
      Stalls: 3. Trays: 3 (3 ready). Waiting for a stall: 0.
      dev-control-planeOpenManager

      No trays here.

      Watch

You are here: cluster kind-dev namespace default
docker exec -it dev-worker bash opens a root prompt inside the node. hostname prints dev-worker. exit goes back to the laptop. Terminal output: $ docker exec -it dev-worker bash $ hostname dev-worker $ exit exit

On kind: Kubernetes IN Docker: a practice food court built from containers on your laptop., each stall is a Docker container with no SSH server. So you step in with docker exec -it dev-worker bash. Same back room, other door.

K9 breaks stalls on purpose. Where is it safe to practise? Swipe right for safe.

You can now name what the CKA adds, and step inside a node.
