What it does

Debian's easy firewall: the guard's list of who may come in.

When to use it

To open one port, and keep every other door shut.

Example

$ sudo ufw allow OpenSSH

Let SSH in. Always before you enable the guard.

$ sudo ufw allow 80/tcp

Let web callers in.

$ sudo ufw enable

Switch the guard on. Over SSH, allow SSH first!

$ sudo ufw status verbose
